A Local’s Ideal Summer Day in Wilson, Wyoming!

Many people who visit Thal Glass Studio in Wilson, Wyoming say "It's so beautiful here, you must take it for granted!" Never! I moved here in 1975 and I still love it! There's so much to do within just a few miles of the glass studio.

7 miles from downtown Jackson, WY, and 9 miles from Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village, Wilson has it all, from hiking to great food to skiing to art to music, and more.

Read on for my perfect late summer/early fall day, featuring my favorite food, hiking, and cultural activity options in the Wilson area.

Here's a taste of what a wonderful day in Wilson looks like for me (Laurie) as a long-time local and artist:

My favorite breakfast at Persephone Cafe - Westbank:

I love starting off the morning at Persephone Cafe’s Westbank location for a hot cup of coffee and a buttery, delicious croissant. Their pastries are delicious their coffee is one of my favorite treats in the Jackson Hole area. Plus they’re right down the road from the glass studio!

Persephone's selection of seasonal croissants, pastries, and baked goods is amazing!

Grab-and-go Lunch from Pearl Street Bagels in Wilson, Wyoming:

Next stop: picking up a lunch to bring with me on a local hike. My favorite: driving through our small town of Wilson to Pearl Street Bagels

Their bagel sandwiches are so tasty (my favorite order is a tomato herb bagel with turkey, swiss, & sprouts - definitely give it a try and let me know what you think!) and make the perfect grab-and-go lunch for a hike.

Ready with my provisions, I head up Teton Pass on Highway 22.

My favorite “Backyard” Hike on Teton Pass:

Ski Lake on Teton Pass is one of my favorite quick hikes in the area. Halfway up the Pass is a large parking lot on the left for the Phillips Canyon Trailhead. Park here and cross the highway to start the 2.4 mile hike to beautiful Ski Lake.

Ski Lake is like our "backyard" for Wilson locals. Everyone with their kids and dogs loves to enjoy our gorgeous seasonal weather (and right now the start of beautiful autumn colors).

Time to enjoy a picnic lunch at the lake and head back down Teton Pass to Wilson!

The Ski Lake hike is beautiful - Ski Lake is circled in the top left of this map!

An afternoon visit to see the owls at the Teton Raptor Center in Wilson:

I love visiting the Teton Raptor Center to check out all the owls. The Raptor Center hosts their Avian Experience programs on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 2 pm in the summers.

Advance registration is required - visit their website to confirm times and to register for a visit here.

The renovated classic barn has stunning architecture and incredible learning opportunities about the birds. They focus on education, research, and rehabilitation for wild birds in the Greater Yellowstone Region.

A local’s favorite dinner at the Stagecoach Bar:

The day wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Stagecoach Bar in Wilson. “The Coach” is a Jackson Hole favorite that’s been in the heart of Wilson since 1942.

My favorite order is a delicious margarita to go with the yummy fish tacos from Streetfood at the Stagecoach. Happy Hour is every day from 4:30-6pm, and it’s always fun to sit outside, enjoy the view, and say hi to all of our Wilson neighbors. The perfect way to end the day.

Such a wonderful day with nature, great food, and cultural opportunities, all within a few miles of home and the glass blowing studio. Enjoy!

OK, back to work!
